Wining and Dining on Long Island

Submitted by on June 10, 2009 – 8:27 pmNo Comment

Wine CampWine Camp is a four-day adventure on the North Fork of Long Island, New York. Campers — adults all, of course, learn all about wine: from the vine to the bottle. There are two camp sessions available this summer: June 15-18, 2009, and July 20-23, 2009.

Campers can learn how to taste wine like an expert, explore the chemistry of winemaking (campers blend their own wine) and (they promise!) “become one with the vines”.

Of course, what’s wine without food? The camp starts with dinner the first evening at the North Fork Table and Inn, and includes a food and wine pairing event at Castello di Borghese, one of the wineries visited.

Others on the list are Bedell Cellars, Corey Creek Vineyards, Jamesport Vineyards, The Lenz Winery, Peconic Bay, The Old Field Vineyards and Paumanok Vineyards.

Why make wine here? The island extends over 100 miles into the Atlantic Ocean, making its maritime climate, geography and soil characteristics ideal for producing world-class wines. There’s more information on Wine Camp online or call 631:495-9744.
