American Cheese Society Festival in Austin
The American Cheese Society‘s Festival is primarily for those involved in cheesemaking (the seminars tend toward the technical). However, the annual event in Austin, Texas, August 5-8, 2009, has two events open to the public: a gigantic tasting called Festival of Cheese from 5:30-9 p.m. August 8, and a cheese sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. August 9, where you can buy pieces of the handcrafted cheese from the society’s competition. The 2009 Cheese Sale will take place at the Hilton Austin in Salon B. So, if you’re road trippin’ anywhere near Austin, consider a stop. Tickets (at $75 for the Festival of Cheese) include not only the chance to taste 1,000 artisan and specialty cheeses from producers throughout North America, but wine, beers and specialty foods.
