highcottonThat uniquely French holiday, Bastille Day, will be celebrated July 14, 2009, at High Cotton Restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina, with a wine tasting. A dozen different biodynamic wines from the Loire Valley in France will be served, along with French-themed hors d’oeuvres and music, for $25 per person. (Space is limited, so plan your Road Trip for Foodies quickly, and make a reservation!)

The featured wines are Eric Bordelet Sidre doux cider 2005, Normandy; Francois Merieau Traditionelle Blanc Brut “Bulles” NV; Domaine de la Fruitiere “M” Muscadet 2007; La Craie Vouvray 2007; Domaine Laureau “Bel Ouvrage” 2003; Domaine du Viking, Vouvray Sec Tendre 2005; Claude Riffault Sancerre “Les Boucards” 2007; Domaine des Huards, Cour-Cheverney 2002; Francois Merieau Sauvignon Touraine 2008; Noblaie Chinon Rouge “Les Chiens Chiens” Champs de L’abbaye” Passetoutgrains 2006, and Clos Delorme Valencay Rouge 2006.

BTW, the restaurant’s name, High Cotton, refers to jargon originating in the Antebellum South: “the best of times”, when the crops were good and the prices high.
