Croydon Food Festival
The second Croydon Food Festival in England is jam packed with more than 60 free events and activities taking place between September 19 and October 4, 2009. (Getting there is easy: it’s just about 15 minutes via Tramlink from Central London to East Croydon Station.)
Road Trip Foodies heading across the pond will find various international guest markets in North End, Central Croydon, during the festival. First up is the Continental Food Market, running between September 24 and 27, 2009, and offering a range of fresh produce from around Europe, including great French cheeses, Italian pastries, Polish sausages and more. Then, from October 1-4, 2009, a Caribbean Market features the best of West Indian cuisine, including popular dishes like rotis, curry goat and jerk chicken.
As part of the Croydon Food Festival program, a kitchen theater will be set up in the Whitgift Centre, Whitgift Square. to showcase the borough’s top restaurateurs and food outlets. From October 1-4, 2009, beginning at 11 a.m. and running throughout the day, a number of live cookery demonstrations are planned. The 30 minute demonstrations — all by local chefs — will showcase everything from basic cooking skills and tips to the preparation of fine cuisine.
