South Dakota Celebrates Food & Wine

Submitted by on April 4, 2010 – 11:15 amNo Comment

redwineRoad Trips Foodies meandering through South Dakota later this month might want to take a detour into Rapid City to attend one of the events during the week-long Food & Wine Festival.

First up is the “Think Wine” dinner on April 12, 2010, and there’s something scheduled every day right through the “Grand Finale” on April 17, 2010 (the complete schedule is online).

The signature event is April 13, 2010, at Prairie Berry Winery in Hill City, South Dakota, which (for $59 per person) pairs the winery’s best with local foods at a bistro dinner. The winery was established in 1876 by Anna Pésa Vojta, an immigrant from Moravia. Sandi Vojta is the fifth generation winemaker who still uses some of the old family recipes and the fruits of the prairie, including grapes and honey, to make more than 30 different varieties of wine.

Each festival week event is hosted by Eric Gardner, a local chef and wine connoisseur. Not coincidentally, he has a regular cooking show on KOTA, the television station sponsoring the event — which benefits local food drives.
