Wine, Vine & Canine Family Hike
Now, here’s something great, Road Trips Foodies! You can bring the entire family, including the dog, for an education walk (and wine tasting) through Tinhorn Creek Vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada. Two are scheduled, each from 11 a.m. to 1 pm. The first is May 2, 2010, and the second May 8, 2010. On each, Andrew Moon (the winery’s viticulturist) will discuss various aspects of vineyard management including trellising and vine development. Box lunches and dog treats will be provided at the end of the hike. (Of course, reservations and sturdy shoes are required.)
Tinhorn Creek was designated Canada’s first “Carbon Neutral Winery in 2009”, and has been recognized by The Land Conservancy as a partner for their ongoing stewardship The winery forgoes toxic baits in favor of habitat modification for pests, composts on-site and bottles with only recycled glass produced within 500 kilometers of the winery. They’re also the first winery in the country to bottle their entire portfolio with a Stelvin screw-cap.
And, if you’re planning for next year, Road Trips Foodies, keep this in mind. An April 2011 opening is anticipated for Tinhorn’s new restaurant, being planned in conjunction with Manuel Ferreira of Le Gavroche Restaurant in Vancouver, B. C.
