Ready for Some Müesli?

Submitted by on December 12, 2010 – 12:23 amNo Comment

Müesli, that crunchy, wholesome breakfast treat, was created at the turn of the 20th century by Swiss physician Maximilian Bircher-Benner for his hospital patients.

The Baur au Lac Hotel, Talstrasse 1, Zurich, serves what many consider Switzerland’s best version of this popular cereal. Of course, this Road Trips Foodie would rather jet off to Zurich and sample the original. But, in the meantime, the hotel has revealed its secret recipe, and here it is:

Birchermüesli Baur au Lac
(Serves 3-4)

Ingredients:
¼ cup oatmeal
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ cup farmer’s cheese
½ cup plain yogurt
1/3 cup half & half
½ cup lemon juice
1 cup orange juice
¼ cup golden apples, peeled and chopped
¼ cup pears, peeled and chopped
½ cup bananas
1/3 cup strawberries
1/5 cup blackberries
1/5 cup blueberries
¼ cup raspberries

Preparation:
Mix all ingredients to combine, and enjoy!
