The Ultimate Collection
The High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction kicks off its 19th year with a celebration of “The Ultimate Collection: A Sumptuous Blend of Wine, Art, Food and Friends.” Beginning March 23 and continuing through March 26, 2011, the auction will again raise its trademark big-top tents in Atlantic Station, a mixed-use redevelopment of the former Atlantic Steel Mill site in midtown Atlanta, Georgia.
Road Trips Foodies driving near Atlanta next spring might want to participate in the largest charity wine auction in the United States that benefits the arts.
The 2011 auction agenda includes “Dine Around Dinners” on March 23 and the “Trade Tasting” and in-home “Winemaker Dinners” on March 24. On March 25, the “Friday Night Fête” at the Museum will offer a private viewing of the special exhibitions “Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century” and “Toulouse-Lautrec and Friends: The Irene and Howard Stein Collection.” The “Vintners’ Reception and Live Auction” is March 26.
The funds generated by the auction, which have totaled more than $17 million over the last 18 years, are a significant contribution to the High Museum’s exhibitions and educational programming.
The High Museum of Art, founded in 1905 as the Atlanta Art Association, has more than 12,000 works of art in its permanent collection, including 19th- and 20th-century American and decorative art, European paintings, African American art and modern and contemporary art, photography and African art. The High is also dedicated to supporting and collecting works by Southern artists and is the only major museum in North America to have a curatorial department specifically devoted to the field of folk and self-taught art.
