Jambalaya Cookoff in Oregon
You’d expect a Jambalaya Cook-Off in Louisiana, but this one‘s in Lincoln City, Oregon. Set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. January 29, 2011, it pits chefs head-to-head in a live cooking demonstration/competition wit their signature Cajun or Creole dishes.
This Northwest-style celebration of Mardi Gras notes that jambalaya (a creole staple) varies widely from cook to cook. It always contains rice, but a variety of other ingredients may be found including tomatoes, onions, green peppers and almost any kind of meat, poultry or fish.
Location for the cook-off is the Culinary Center, 801 SW Hwy 101, Lincoln City, Oregon (above the Library in City Hall). There’s no admission charge, but you’ll pay 50¢ for each sample you try. If you’re a Road Trips Foodie on the Oregon coast this weekend, it’s a don’t-miss event!
