Wurstfest
Those of us Road Trips Foodies who’ve driven along the Missouri River west of St. Louis know that Hermann is one of those quintessential German-American towns found throughout the midwest.
On March 26 and 27, 2011, the town celebrates its 32nd annual Wurstfest, celebrating the “best of the wurst” (as they like to put it). Turn up in Hermann during the fest, and you can both sample and purchase Old World delights like bratwurst, leberwurst, schwartenmagen and sommer sausage.
All events during Wurstfest will be held in the Pavilion at Stone Hill Winery and at the Hermannhof Festhalle. Look for live German music, sausage-making contests, a brat knot-tying contest, a “whole hog sausage breakfast,” crafts, wine tastings and more. (If you’re traveling with your Dachshund you might want to enter him or her in the Weiner Dog Derby!)
