Learn How to Make Ice Cream and More
If your travels will take you through New Mexico in November, consider timing your visit to participate in an “Ice Cream, Butter and Yogurt Making Class” at Old Windmill Dairy in Estancia, New Mexico.
This is a hands-on course, so be sure to pack work clothes (goats like to nibble jackets and more) plus a cooler to transport the goodies you create.
Everyone will have a chance to churn butter and go through the process of making farm fresh ice cream. The yogurt process will be prestaged so you can experience the final product, but class members will learn how to set up a batch of yogurt.
This class takes place from noon to 4 p.m. November 6, 2011; cost is $48.50 per person. And, if you definitely want to participate, it wouldn’t hurt to register as soon as you know your plans (most classes do sell out).
Farm tours at the dairy are available on Sundays by advance reservation only. Call 505:384-0033 to arrange.
