Michael Mischer Chocolates

Yes, there really is a Michael Mischer at Michael Mischer Chocolates, 3352 Grand Avenue, Oakland, California.

Born and raised in northern Germany, Mischer entered the pastry and confection business as an apprentice to Swiss Master Pastry Chef Andreas Haertle at Konditorei in Braunschweig, Germany. After moving to California in 1984 and working in small pastry shops as well as his own pastry shop, he decided that it was time for a challenge. With his love for the craft of producing fresh products, the idea for a small chocolate shop was born.

Sunset magazine sang the praises of his single-origin chocolate bars studded with toffee and salt, Road Trips Foodies, but you might want to try one of his filled confections. Choices include apple pie (pictured), barbecue, root beer and tamarind.
