Chocolate Festival on St. Lucia

Submitted by on November 20, 2011 – 11:00 amNo Comment

Cacao has a long history on the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia, dating back to the 1700’s. the cacao trees, over 1000 strong, are established in both Anse Mamin Plantation and in Emerald Estate where they’ve been producing and harvesting cacao beans for generations.

Jade Mountain’s Chocolate Festival in Soufriere celebrates the cacao December 9 through 12, 2011. It starts December 9 with a “Chocolat-tini” party. While Consulting Chef, Allen Susser shares his passion for chocolate, participants will not only taste local chocolate-inspired finger foods but a chocolate martini as well. Following dinner, dessert choices include a lush Double Dark Chocolate Fondue that must be shared to enjoy its true aphrodisiac pleasures.

The next day, participants will take a walking tour through the Cocoa Plantation and Organic Gardens. Here the cacao tree bears its leaves, flowers, and fruit simultaneously throughout the year. The cacao pods are shaped like large oval melons, saffron yellow or red in color and a wonderful sight to enjoy. Learn about the alchemy of chocolate from pod to truffle in a workshop led by Chef Allen. The day continues with a picnic lunch on the porch of the farm house on Nick Troubetzkoy’s Emerald Estate. Dinner that evening will be all chocolate — a five-course dinner with chocolate in each course.

December 11 starts with a “Chocolate” Breakfast in Bed. Those who cannot get enough may want to try the chocolate spa treatment: Luxury at its Sweetest.
