Arvinis International Wine Fair
The wines of Switzerland are featured at the 17th annual Arvinis Wine Fair, set for April 18 through 23, 2012, in Morges, Switzerland. It’ll be held in the Halle CFF, across the tracks at the train station (maps and directions).
A staple for wine lovers in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, each year it brings together people who are interested in and know their wines, exhibitors who are well known, winemakers and the new vintage.
Organizers note that Swiss winemakers were faced a complicated year for growers in 2011: “a summer-like spring, June remarkable for its unpleasant weather and a very dry autumn.” Rising above this atypical weather pattern, they’ll present wines they have created from this demanding vintage,
Swiss Wine Promotion will be presenting some of Switzerland’s least-known wine grapes. Rèze, Completer, Mara, Lafnetscha and Plant Robert are just some of the little-known specialties that you will be able to sample at the fair.
Activities include an “introduction to the basics of wine tasting” (in English), a luncheon pairing fish from Lake Geneva and Morges wines and a “vertical tasting” of Sassicaia, where participants will compare various vintages of a single Tuscan varietal.
