Metamora’s Strawberry Festival
That’s a photo of the strawberry pie eating contest at Metamora, Indiana’s annual Strawberry Days — a celebration with a quarter-of-a-century history.
This year’s edition is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both June 2 and June 3, 2012, on the Jonathan Banes House Lawn.
There, in the Strawberry Tent, local merchants dressed in period clothing are ready to serve guests strawberry shortcake with ice cream and whipped cream.
Metamora (map) is an 1838-era Indiana canal town in southeastern Indiana. It as the state’s oldest still-operating water-powered grist mill as well as a piece of the historic canal (which you can ride on a horse-drawn canal boat).
