“Come get your moonshine here!”
Driving through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park this summer, Road Trips Foodies? What about stopping for a distillery tour in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Ole Smoky® Distillery, 903 Parkway, traffic light #8, Gatlinburg, Tennessee (map) offers free tours that include an authentic working moonshine still. Visitors will learn the science of the distilling process and the history of moonshining before enjoying free samples of Ole Smoky® Moonshine (for those over 21 years or older).
Ole Smoky® is the state’s first legal moonshine distillery. You can stock up on hooch at the gift shop (except Sundays of course — this is the South). Sold in a traditional 750 ml Mason-style jar, the moonshine is a century-old family recipe that shines in four varieties:
v Ole Smoky© Original Moonshine TM (for sippin’)
v Ole Smoky© White Lightnin’ TM (for mixin’)
v Ole Smoky© Moonshine Cherries TM (an Appalachian party tradition)
v Ole Smoky© Apple Pie Moonshine TM (Americana in a jar)
The Ole Smoky© Distillery is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
