Eric Ripert Cooks…in Bhutan

Submitted by on August 12, 2012 – 8:02 amNo Comment

OK, Road Trips Foodies, here’s a far away jaunt for you.

Chef Eric Ripert (pictured) will cook dinner for guests of the Amankora Thimphu Lodge in Bhutan on September 14 and 15, 2012. It’s noted that his visit will mark the first time ever that a Michelin-starred chef will cook in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Chef Ripert will combine his signature French style with Bhutanese cuisine with the help of the lodge chef at Amankora Thimphu, Matthew Schaefer (who formerly served as sous chef to Chef Ripert at Le Bernardin in New York City). The two will go beyond the kitchen, foraging for wild chanterelle mushrooms in the pine forests outside the lodge and harvesting their own red rice.

A practicing Buddhist, Chef Ripert also will travel throughout the country, sampling the nation’s cuisine, hiking to ancient monasteries, visiting local breweries and distilleries.
