Let’s Go Wiking!
Americans love to shmush words together to form neologisms, and here’s one for Road Trips Foodies: wiking.
Can’t guess? It’s a mash-up of wine-tasting and hiking!
Well, who wouldn’t want to spend a few days along the Rogue River Trail in Oregon, walking and sipping.
The trail was forged by pack mules supplying miners along the river in the early 1900s. These days, there are lodges instead of tents, and chefs to prepare meals on excursions arranged by Rogue Wilderness Adventures.
Don’t like the thought of schlepping a backpack? Rafts carry all gear and offer a place for weary hikers to rest for a while and enjoy a float trip down the river. Each evening at the lodges, guests are treated to wine tastings led by a wine sommelier. The next departures are September 15, 2012, and September 30, 2012.
