Burns Night Celebrations

Submitted by on January 14, 2013 – 8:20 amNo Comment

If you need an excuse to indulge in traditional Scottish fare, Road Trips Foodies, get yourself a ticket to a Burns Night celebration (that’s Robert Burns in the photo, at left). They’re held around the time of his birthday: January 25.

Although it’s nominally a tribute to Scotland’s most famous poet, it’s really an excuse to dig out that kilt, indulge in some single malt whisky and eat a bit of haggis. (There’s a description here.)

Probably the best known Burns Supper in the States is sponsored by the American-Scottish Foundation. This year’s dinner, the 18th annual, takes place January 18, 2013, in the University Club, 1 East 54th Street, New York, New York.

The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a reception and whisky tasting of Bowmore and Glen Garioch Single Malts, presented by David McNicoll, Brand Ambassador for Fine Whiskies at Campari, who will also act as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Guests will be piped into dinner where a traditional Burns Night feast will follow.

If you’re across the pond later this month, try for a ticket to the Burns Supper at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Murdoch’s Lone, Alloway, Ayr, Scotland (map). It’s set for 7 p.m. January 24, 2013.
