Where to Eat Breakfast: Lexington
Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday at Doodles, 262 North Limestone, Lexington, Kentucky. The weekend menu differs somewhat from the Tuesday through Friday fare — your Road Trips Foodie was there during the week.
Pigs and Puffs (on both menus) is a Doodles original (not for the cholesterol-avoiding). It consists of four strips of bacon atop four beignets surrounded by fresh fruit. I didn’t have that — as tempting as it sounded. I opted for “The Cure” (pictured), ordering my two eggs over easy plus bacon, grits and a couple of biscuits. Not to mention orange juice and coffee.
This popular almost-downtown eatery is in a repurposed gas station, so it’s definitely small. There’s often a line (especially, they tell me, on weekends), but it’s worth the wait.
Doodles is, of course, named for the familiar cock-a-doodle-do of the rooster, which is its emblem.
