Wild Rice Processing
Road Trips Foodies have probably seen rice paddies in the American South (if not elsewhere in the world), but have you looked at the production of wild rice?
(Wild rice is the name given to four species of grasses forming the genus Zizania; it’s not related to Asian rice, Oryza sativa.)
Staff of the Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post, 43411 Oodena Drive, Onamia, Minnesota, will demonstrate the process from raw to finished product during 20-minute presentations offered at noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. September 5, 2015, and again September 12, 19 and 26, 2015.
Note that the outdoor demonstrations may be cancelled due to weather.
