West Elks Wine Trail

The Western Slope of the Colorado Rockies is gaining quite a reputation as a wine destination. A group of wineries have teamed up to form the West Elks Wine Trail: a fine way to taste the best of the new west! For this jaunt, we’re talking about a bit of Colorado that’s south of I-70 and north of US 50, just west of the Gunnison National Forest. We’ll start at Leroux Creek Vineyards in Hotchkiss, Colorado, but you can just as easily start at Terror Creek Winery in Paonia, Colorado. It all depends on whether you’d like to meander west to east, or the reverse!

Note: Three are open daily (usually 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) year ’round: Leroux Creek Vineyards, Delicious Orchards and Terror Creek. Three more are open daily from Memorial Day through the end of October: Black Bridge Winery AZURA Cellars and Stone Cottage Cellars. Liliputian Winery is open year ’round Monday through Saturday, and Alfred Eames Cellars is open by appointment.
