Yakima Valley Spring Barrel Tasting
This is your chance, Road Trips Foodies, to sample a new vintage straight from the barrel! It’s one of the offerings during the Yakima Valley Spring Barrel Tasting to be held April 23-25, 2010. The location’s a bit difficult to pinpoint — in the Yakima Valley of eastern Washington State, to be sure. But the spring tasting is spread out over Yakima, Prosser, Naches, Sunnyside, Wapato, Outlook, Benton City, Zillah and Granger.
From 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day, barrel tasting allows tasters a sneak preview of upcoming vintages from their favorite wineries. This special weekend in the Yakima Valley features winemakers and cellar staff who are on hand to share insights and answer questions on the winemaking process. New to Spring Barrel Tasting this year are cooking demonstrations, winemaker dinners, vineyard tours and educational experiences pairing Yakima Valley food and wine. Many of the 50 participating wineries make special efforts to enhance the wine tasting experience by adding delicious cheeses, sauces, salsas, and even desserts to the mix along with special tastings and education.
If you’ll be in the Yakima Valley then, you might want to check out the Wine Yakima Valley Premiere pass ($30 online or $35 at the door). On-line Pass sales run through April 21. In addition to the Premiere Pass wristband, you’ll get a 15 oz. commemorative wineglass. Benefits are complicated (because they differ by winery) but, in general, it gets you a wine tasting and, often, food sampling as well, Check online to see the latest word about what’s included where.
