Phelps Sauerkraut Festival

It started today and runs through Saturday (August 4-6, 2011), so if you love sauerkraut you’ve got to hurry to upstate New York for the 45th annual Sauerkraut Festival. It all takes place at the Ontario Street fairgrounds in Phelps, New York.
The food court includes kielbasa, perogies, turkey legs, iconic sauerkraut cake, root beer floats and more food and beverages of all sorts (plus sauerkraut, of course).
The Phelps Sauerkraut Festival began in 1967, when a factory produced the veggie in the town. Although the factory moved on, the festival stayed — now sponsored by the Phelps American Legion (Auxiliary Unit 457) and the Phelps Fire Department.
